Thank You, Dr. Womack!

Thank you, Dr. Womack!

Readers might have noticed something (or rather, somebody) missing from this issue of Orthotown Magazine. Our longtime friend, Dr. Wm. Randol Womack, has retired from his duties as editorial director of Orthotown Magazine. As sad as we are to see him leave, we are pleased to report Dr. Womack continues to practice orthodontics in Arizona and will continue to be a contributor to the pages of this magazine, as well as to the message boards of Orthotown.com. Dr. Womack, aka "Dr. Wo," was instrumental in getting Orthotown Magazine off the ground, and made it his responsibility to bring you the most timely and up-to-date information on cutting-edge technologies in the orthodontic profession, new and useful treatment plans, unique (and even sometimes strange) cases, and in-depth interviews with some of the most important and well-known personalities in orthodontics. Without Dr. Wo, Orthotown would be a mere shadow of what it is today. To commemorate his hard work, dedication to and passion for this publication and growing online community, and to thank him for everything he has done for the orthodontic profession, we present this special tribute to Dr. Womack from his colleagues and co-workers.

To my good friend and mentor - Dr. Randy Womack - a big thank you for all your years of commitment, dedication and service to helping our esteemed profession of orthodontics advance with new technologies in this digital age of society! Your passion and enthusiasm for embracing the 3D world of orthodontics (Invisalign, CBCT, SureSmile, IO scanning, etc.) has been truly motivating for me. What you have done in your time at Orthotown has been incredibly refreshing. Orthotown is a Web-based platform for communication and education in a cool, trendy and fun environment. Kudos to you, and I wish you only the best in your retirement!

It's hard to think of Orthotown without Randy Womack. The two have become synonymous. It has been an honor for me to be associated with Randy on so many levels. His kind manner, keen insights and scrupulous integrity have in large measure set the bar at the highest level for orthodontic publishing. His day-to-day presence will be missed. One thing is certain - whatever endeavor he devotes his attention to will be better for it. Best wishes to you, my friend, in the next phase of your career and your life.

It has been my pleasure both personally and professionally to work with Dr. Randy Womack. I have found him to be a caring, compassionate individual. I have also learned a great deal from him during our time together on the Invisalign clinical advisory board. Through Orthotown Magazine he has demonstrated his love of orthodontics and a commitment to improve our profession. Randy, thanks for all you have done for orthodontics and your colleagues.

Orthodontics has a rich history full of unique personalities that share one common bond - an unending enthusiasm for seeking out the next innovation that improves our profession and serves our patients better. Dr. Randy Womack is one of those people who have worked tirelessly to share his enthusiasm and experience with us over the past several years as the editorial director of Orthotown Magazine. Randy has been a thoughtful clinician, superb teacher and mentor to many orthodontists both young and old, and a great advocate for our profession. Randy, a heartfelt "Thank You!" for all you have shared with me over the past decade.

Dr. Randy Womack has enjoyed a long and productive career of which he can justly be proud. His many contributions to improve the orthodontic profession are widely recognized and appreciated. He has certainly demonstrated a lot of vision and initiative in working to inspire practitioners to explore creative orthodontic venues and efficient orthodontic protocols. I first met Dr. Randy Womack through our teaching activities at the Orthodontic Graduate Program (Arizona School of Dentistry) where Dr. Womack is very well respected by other faculty members, residents and staff. I personally see Dr. Womack as a great teacher, a personable advisor and a loyal friend. I have enjoyed working with Dr. Womack and I look forward to a continued relationship.

When I heard Randy was retiring from the position of Editorial Director of Orthotown Magazine, I thought, good luck with that my friend! Last time you tried to retire, that didn't go so well! This man has so much energy, such a great passion for our specialty, and such dedication towards patient care, that it seems he can't sit still for a moment. Over the years I've known Randy, he proved to be a great friend, curious scholar, attending my courses regularly, and generous mentor, sharing his experience with me. Although I will certainly miss working with him at Orthotown, I am sure that his drive will lead him to new adventures in the years to come. Randy, thanks for everything!

Randy, you were a part of the start of something big! Less than five years ago Orthotown Magazine was still just an idea. Your leadership and extensive orthodontic knowledge and passion have helped to grow the magazine into what is today. It was an honor to work with such an accomplished clinician. Best wishes in your retirement.

(Editor of Orthotown Magazine)
Dr. Wo, we first met when we were interviewing candidates for the editorial director position for Orthotown Magazine. I was taken by your passion for orthodontics and your excitement to be part of a start-up publication that you insisted the orthodontic profession needed. Through your experience, expertise and drive, you helped us take Orthotown Magazine and Orthotown.com from a fledgling magazine and Web site to one of the most respected media entities in the orthodontics profession. Thank you, Randy, for being a strong voice and advocate for orthodontists, an incredible sounding board for editorial ideas and clinical projects, a rock-solid mentor and a great friend. I'm excited to continue working with you on new editorial features and case studies as you develop them. I wish you the best, and I hope you can manage a little R&R... You deserve it!

Dr. Womack, thank you for getting Orthotown rocking! It is an honor to be a part of this amazing community and magazine that you got off the ground. The shoes we have to fill in your wake are large and we hope to be able to come close to the high expectations for the future of Orthotown you have instilled in us. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. You have poured your heart and soul into this project and it is sure to be a legacy for many future generations of innovative orthodontic professionals.

Some people retire and stay retired. And that was probably your goal when you first retired from orthodontics in 1997. But Randy, when you retire, you go back to work - and you take on more! Thank you for un-retiring long enough to be the editorial director for Orthotown Magazine! In your four years at Orthotown you've definitely left orthodontics better than when you found it. I can't tell you how much we appreciate your efforts in driving the clinical direction of the magazine and your input in improving the Orthotown.com online community. Now that you've retired from Orthotown, we can't help but wonder what you're going to un-retire to do next! Thank you, Randy, and good luck!
