Gandolfo “My first two Office Visit assignments were a practice with actual surfboards in its operatories and another fully emblazoned with Hello Kitty and Sanrio characters,” says L.A.-based photographer Christina Gandolfo, who has since photographed seven more doctors for Orthotown and Dentaltown, including this issue’s Dr. Hideki Ikeda. The most interesting shoot in her “Me and My Emmy” project? “Definitely James Brolin, wearing a tuxedo while fishing his 1970 Emmy statuette out of a pond on his Malibu estate while his wife, Barbra Streisand, spied on us from a distance.”

Mein Ho Schlesner After the Farran Media team signs off on each issue of Orthotown magazine, the files go through additional inspection at the printer before pages can be prepared for plating and printing. There, technical service representative Mein Ho Schlesner helps ensures every page is set up correctly: Do all images have the proper resolution, format and color mode? Are there extra inks beyond the big four (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) in the mix? Are the physical dimensions of “ride-along” ads correct? “On a typical month, I’m responsible for 60 to 80 different magazine titles,” says Schlesner, who has worked in the printing industry for nearly four decades and can recall the days when the metal press plates were created via film negatives, instead of today’s computer-to-plate technology.

Casey Bull “Many orthodontic offices find their administrative staff overloaded with diverse responsibilities, which can detract from their focus on in-person patient experiences,” says Casey Bull (“AI, GA4, SMS and More”), whose career in the orthodontic industry began in 2014 with Dr. Alexander Waldman. “By outsourcing responsibilities such as insurance tasks, billing and contracts, phone and SMS support, and event planning to virtual assistants, your on-site staff can allocate more time and attention to patient care.” Bull has skin in this particular game, having recently become chief operating officer at MyOrthoVA, which finds remote staffers to tackle tasks like the ones mentioned above, but she also supports The Invisible Orthodontist by providing marketing and business management expertise to member practices (and Orthotown readers).
