Product Profile: A New Standard in Ortho-Hygiene

Bringing technique-free brushing to fixed orthodontic appliances

Effective brushing is more complex than it seems. It requires patients to consistently control brush angle, motion, sequencing and coverage to effectively clean every tooth surface. Add brackets and wires, and those demands increase, creating more plaque-retentive surfaces and making already hard-to-reach areas even harder to clean.1

Yet successful ortho-hygiene still depends largely on patients executing technique correctly and consistently at home. Even with instruction and motivation, kids frequently miss key surfaces when brushing.2 Braces don’t create the technique problem; they amplify it.

Willo’s new ortho brush head was designed to change the equation
Developed by orthodontists for fixed appliances, the new ortho brush head brings Willo’s patented, technique-free brushing system to the unique challenge of cleaning around brackets and wires.

Willo automatically performs the modified Bass technique, controlling the precise angles, motions and sequencing that effective brushing requires. Rather than relying on patients to learn and consistently reproduce these steps themselves, Willo helps eliminate user error to make effective daily brushing easier for kids, especially those with braces.

According to Willo’s clinical research, its ortho brush head produced statistically significant plaque reduction at every site measured: from bracket to gingival margin (where decalcification begins), around brackets, and on the proximal and the lingual surfaces patients most often miss.

Effective home care also depends on compliance. Willo makes brushing properly and consistently easier. Based on 94,000 brushing sessions, the company reported that 87% lasted a full two minutes. Nine out of 10 kids find Willo easy to use on their very first brushing. Better still, according to Willo, 91% of ortho patients reported a fresh, clean feeling and 85% enjoyed Willo compared with their typical brushing routine.

For orthodontists, that creates an opportunity to extend care beyond the clinic, combining effective plaque removal with a brushing experience patients can more consistently execute at home, and helping create greater continuity of care between visits.
