Snap Smile Share
Apple has approved Snap Smile Share, a mobile app for iPhones and iPads to help younger orthodontic patients with their braces treatment. The app is free and available on the Apple App Store.

Snap Smile Share aims to improve treatment compliance and enhance the orthodontic experience of young patients with braces. The app's first feature turns the patient's phone into a time-lapse video tool that creates a short video of the patient's teeth straightening and smile improving.

The mobile app's next feature provides patients with traditional braces a chance to “try on” different popular elastic colors. Finally, the app sends daily text notifications to remind patients to change aligners or to replace elastics and to wear their retainers.

App users can gather input from friends on which colors they should select next by sharing a picture of their choice via social media. After the patient decides on their color or color combination, a picture of their selection can then be saved on their phone's camera roll and later shown to their orthodontist.

There is an in-app feature for orthodontists to add their practice's logo and/or text to a patient's time-lapse video. The in-app feature is important if an orthodontist would like to use the app to make videos of their patient's progress. The orthodontist can then use these videos for marketing purposes to show successful treatments on his or her social media accounts. For more information, visit SnapSmileShare.com. .

OrthoDots
OrVance has introduced OrthoDots, a solution to abrasions caused by braces and other orthodontic appliances. OrthoDots combine a biomedical-grade silicone with a proprietary Moisture Activated Technology to produce an easier and more effective application. The silicone material used in OrthoDots is more than 30 times more pliable than the leading brand of dental wax, and prevents the crumbling associated with traditional wax products.

OrthoDots also offer hygienic benefits, providing two packaging options specifically designed to comply with FDA guidelines for medical devices that are likely to be used across multiple patients. The ProPack offers 48 individually packaged applications to enable fast and hygienic use on multiple patients, all in compliance with CDC and FDA guidelines for health-care settings. The Patient Pack option provides six individually packaged applications in a perforated strip, for more hygienic and convenient patient use.

iPrint 3D Printer
Motion View's in-office iPrint 3D printer eliminates delays and reduces costs compared to contracting out to a lab for 3D printing services. Instead, appliances for indirect bonding and other purposes are made onsite and quickly available to use. Results are extremely accurate, in high resolution, and fast.

The iPrint 3D software accepts .STL files for printing models at user-selectable layer thicknesses of 25, 50, or 100 microns. The iPrint 3D printer is SLA-based, using a laser to cure the printing material in a build area of 7x7x8 inches. The iPrint 3D printer can print approximately 15mm per hour vertically (in Z-axis) or more in some circumstances.

When orthodontists use the iPrint 3D printer for printing .STL files exported from Ortho Insight 3D software, the orthodontists have tools for a complete solution in their own offices. Orthodontists can create treatment plans that use transfer trays for indirect bonding, aligners for tooth movement, and other appliances including surgical drill guides and surgical splints.
