Thousands of orthodontists and staff members descended upon Florida April 30–May 3 for the 2016 AAO Annual Session in Orlando. At the 2016 AAO Annual Session, 3M introduced Victory Series Low Profile Brackets with APC Flash-Free Adhesive, which will be available in August. These brackets will join Clarity Advanced Ceramic Brackets, the SmartClip SL3 and Clarity SL self-ligating appliance systems and Victory Series Superior Fit buccal tubes in offering orthodontists advanced adhesive technology that allows them to move directly from bracket placement to bracket cure without removing adhesive flash.

3M also introduced enhancements to the SmartClip SL3 self-ligating appliance system, resulting in improved rotational control and reduction in engagement and disengagement forces.

American Orthodontics

American Orthodontics has announced two new features on its PowerScope 2 Class II Corrector. The product now features a magnetic sleeve that slides onto the hex head driver, ensuring a secure hold on the appliance during installation and stabilizing the attachment nut when seating it on the wire.

In addition, PowerScope 2 has new activation lines that provide a clear visual cue during activation. The three distinct lines are spaced 2 millimeters apart and reference the level of appliance activation, ranging from no activation to partial to full. The appliance also includes an improved attachment nut to increase durability and ease of installation, and is available in five-patient or single-patient kits.

Forestadent

The Forestadent DuoForce archwires combine two outstanding features. Because of the material's copper content, the DuoForce exerts lower forces than nickel-titanium archwires. In addition, the DuoForce has two different force zones whose transition is seamless. This allows clinicians to use rectangular archwires at an earlier treatment stage than usual, and allows three-dimensional control during the alignment phase.

DuoForce archwires are made of a copper-nickel-titanium alloy. Compared with conventional metal alloys, the forces remain consistent no matter how far the archwires are deflected. With DuoForce the ligating forces are considerably lower and far more consistent than with conventional nickel-titanium archwires.

Highland Metals' new aesthetic archwire features tooth-colored epoxy coating and is available in Highland Metals' Super Elastic NiTi and regular stainless steel archwires. The company's new wires go through a proprietary process to coat the wires in the solution, which creates the most durable tooth-colored finish in the industry. The epoxy coating adds .002" in thickness to the wire dimensions (e.g., .016" coated has a .014" base wire with .014" applied forces). The wires are available in multipacks of round or rectangular natural arch forms.
