Dr. Glenn Krieger “A few years back, I found myself constantly scrolling through feeds filled with successes and high points of peers and colleagues,” says Dr. Glenn Krieger (“The Illusion of Perfection”). “One day, after seeing a post about a professional achievement by someone I knew well, I felt a profound sense of being ‘less than.’ ” The moment reminded Krieger of an Olympic swimming race in which Michael Phelps’ closest competitor had been swimming while looking sideways at Phelps, which changed his body position enough to create more drag and secure a second-place finish. “From that moment, I decided to focus on my own journey rather than comparing myself to others,” Krieger says.

Angie Menendez In her role as a practice management consultant, Angie Menendez (“Setting Your Sites”) is used to giving advice to orthodontic teams about ways to improve their clinical and communication skills. Recently, Menendez founded her own company, Embrace Consulting, and found herself frequently using some of those same skills as a new sole business owner. “Active listening is key to building strong connections,” she says. “Even more than I practiced before, I strive to instill this value in all areas of my business with my collaborators, my team and my clients."

Dr. Robert Lee Dr. Robert Lee, whose lingual orthodontics case is featured in this month’s Townie Treatment Case (“Sight Unseen”), balances private practice ownership with his responsibilities as co-founder, senior clinical supervisor and head of clinical affairs for InBrace. “My typical workweek is evenly divided, with 2½ days dedicated to treating patients and managing my practice and 2½ days focused on InBrace clinical affairs,” says Lee. (The double duty cuts into his evening hours, too, however; Lee estimates he spends another three hours each night designing patient digital setups, handling administrative tasks for his practice and managing InBrace clinical affairs.)
