AAO Welcomes 2026–27 President
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) announced its 2026–27 leadership team during the organization’s Annual Session in Orlando. Dr. Michael Durbin of Prospect Heights, Illinois, was installed as AAO president following the completion of Dr. Steven M. Siegel’s term. Durbin has served on the AAO Board of Trustees since 2017, representing the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists, and has held several leadership and advocacy roles within the organization. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he chaired the AAO COVID-19 Task Force, which developed clinical guidance and worked with advocacy leaders on regulatory issues affecting orthodontic practices.

Great Lakes Names New CEO
Great Lakes named David Josza president and CEO, effective May 11, 2026. Josza has experience across the medical and dental device industries and holds an MBA in international finance. His background includes leadership roles at startups, mid-market companies, and public corporations, with experience in business turnarounds, post-acquisition integrations, and operational management. According to Great Lakes, Josza has led revenue growth initiatives in global markets while improving operational efficiency and sales performance. The company said his expertise includes go-to-market strategy, sales force effectiveness, and cross-border operations as Great Lakes enters its next phase of growth.

Medit Establishes Global Orthodontic Business Division
Medit announced the establishment of its Global Orthodontic Business Division and the acquisition of Progressive Orthodontics through Medit USA Inc. The new division will oversee Medit’s orthodontic products, services, and education initiatives, combining the company’s digital scanning and AI-driven software platforms with Progressive Orthodontics’ clinical education programs. Founded more than 40 years ago, Progressive Orthodontics provides orthodontic continuing education programs to dental professionals in more than 60 countries. Medit said the division will manage the Medit Orthodontic Suite and Medit Aligners platform, with broader global expansion planned.

Dentsply Sirona Updates SureSmile Software
Dentsply Sirona released an updated SureSmile software experience designed to streamline orthodontic workflows for clinicians and staff. According to the company, the update introduces an enhanced patient overview that consolidates patient status, history, and key details into a single view. Additional updates include a redesigned digital lab communication interface intended to reduce back-and-forth communication between practices and the SureSmile Digital Lab. The platform also now allows users to upload patient photos directly from mobile devices and order case refinements without requiring new photos. The updated software runs on DS Core, Dentsply Sirona’s cloud-based workflow platform.
