Smile for a Lifetime Launches International Presence with Expansion to Canada

Posted: October 9, 2012
WHAT:
Smile for a Lifetime Foundation (S4L), a national nonprofit organization that provides orthodontic care and free braces to underserved children with financial challenges and orthodontic needs, is now accepting scholarship applications from orthodontists throughout Canada. Through S4L, Canadian orthodontists now have the opportunity to give back to their communities by providing free treatment to underserved children. Prior to today, the organization served only those underprivileged in the U.S.

WHEN:
Practicing orthodontists in Canada are now eligible to participate.

WHERE:

Scholarship winners can receive treatment from Canada-based participating orthodontists.

WHO:

Smile for a Lifetime benefits multiple groups of people, including:
·        Children aged 11 to 18 with financial struggles who are interested in applying for a scholarship to receivefree orthodontic treatment
·        Progressive orthodontists throughout Canada interested in donating at least six free treatments per year
·        Volunteers who would like to donate their time by reviewing scholarship entries and attending local meetings on a regular basis

WHY:
Smiles are a large part of an individual’s identity and S4L believes finances should never stop a child from achieving the dream of a straight smile. Braces provide benefits that last a lifetime, including:
·        Healthier teeth and gums
·        Confidence to excel in school, work and personal life
·        Clearer speech
·        Better oral health, as straight and evenly spaced teeth are easier to keep clean
·        Properly aligned teeth chew more efficiently, helping with digestion
·        A better bite, which may reduce stress, headaches and strain on supporting bone and tissue

SPONSOR:
Ormco Corporation <http://ormco.com/> , a leading manufacturer and provider of advanced orthodontic technology, serves as S4L’s primary sponsor and provides free brackets—from any of its appliance systems—to orthodontists who award S4L scholarships. Orthodontists have the option to select their preferred Ormco brackets that best fit their treatment method.
