According to "Dr. Wo": Wm. Randol Womack, DDS, Editorial Director, Orthotown Magazine

Welcome to Orthotown

Wm. Randol Womack, DDS
Editorial Director,
Orthotown Magazine
I am so pleased to have been asked to be the editorial director for the newest addition to the Farran Media family. Following the successes of Dentaltown and Hygienetown Magazines, Orthotown Magazine and its companion Web site, Orthotown.com, compliment the move toward Web-based functions in orthodontics. "Interactive" is definitely the trend in orthodontic practice management and marketing today.

I belong to the Arizona Orthodontic Study Group, where we hold "case presentation" meetings at which doctors present patient records for review by their peers. These meetings are of great benefit to everyone involved, but they only happen three or four times each year. When you visit Orthotown.com, this exchange can happen several times each day! The electronic age has indeed arrived, and Orthotown provides a platform for learning and for transferring information that gets older practices "up to speed" with our younger and more technology proficient colleagues.
In each issue of Orthotown, we dedicate a portion of our editorial topics to discussions posted by you on Orthotown.com. These "message boards" are edited for length and are selected based on how many of you have viewed it online and/or contributed to the discussion.

There is no other orthodontic publication that can offer immediate dialogue and discussion of published information. When we feature message boards in Orthotown Magazine, our goal is to pique your interest in hopes that you will get involved with this orthodontic online community. The more you participate and interact on this site, the more varied the discussions will be. The more varied the discussions are, the more the orthodontic community will participate.

The magazine’s original content will deliver more, as well as new information through articles, editorials, interviews, polls and new product profiles. Through the Web site, we can create message board threads where you can discuss these items. We will also communicate with you on a bi-weekly basis through our e-Newsletter. This is a unique and important piece of our publishing foundation because we feature new discussions and cases posted on the Web site. The e-Newsletter is also used to communicate fresh press releases, Townie benefits and new product information exclusive to you.

After "flunking" retirement from 1997-99, I am very pleased to be practicing orthodontics three to four days a week in a new office, which is featured on page 26 in this issue. My daily practice experiences and my 40-plus years of experience provide me with valued insights into the material that I will select for each issue. Additionally you can find me at orthodontic meetings from time to time, visiting exhibits and speaking with members to be sure our magazine content remains current and on the "cutting edge" of our profession. Please feel free to contact me with your questions and/or comments via e-mail: randy@farranmedia.com.

I invite you to join our community and participate in this unique forum of synergistic communication, exclusive to the orthodontic profession.

Sincerely,
Wm. Randol Womack, D.D.S.
