Dr. Cory Costanzo When someone attends one of Dr. Cory Costanzo’s lectures or reads his articles, he hopes they leave with practical insights they can apply in their practice. He shares, “If something I teach makes creating smiles easier, more efficient or provides better outcomes— that puts a smile on my face as well!” In his article, (“A Smiling Future”), Costanzo emphasizes the importance of taking on challenging cases rather than turning them away, recalling the rewarding experience of treating patients like Irene. “Establishing a treatment plan that’s truly in the patient’s best interest and diligently following through can change lives for the better,” he says. It’s this mission of compassionate service that drives his work.

Outside of orthodontics, Dr. Costanzo is passionate about skateboarding, a hobby he picked up at age seven. After a long break, he returned to the sport after his residency, joining a vibrant community of older skaters and even incorporating a classy skateboard theme into his office. As a board member of Fresno Skateboard Salvage, he helps turn used skateboards into art to fund skateboards for underprivileged kids. Patients young and old love his unique approach—especially when they spot their orthodontist at the skatepark, decked out in pads and a mouthguard!

Dr. Andrew Sarpotdar Dr. Andrew Sarpotdar (“Critical Hits”) has been practicing orthodontics since 2013 and founded Icon Orthodontics in Surprise, Arizona, in 2015. He practices alongside his wife, Dr. Jenny Sun, in two locations. Sarpotdar is also the founder of the Orthodontic Pearls Facebook group, and the Mother of Pearls Conference. He also serves on the editorial board of Orthotown, writes for the PCSO Bulletin and is a speaker and knowledge expert for Ormco. Seven years ago, Sarpotdar introduced his puggles, Chief and Lexie, as mascots for his practice. While they aren’t official therapy dogs, the puggles have become a beloved part of the office environment, providing both comfort and joy to both patients and staff.

Dr. Bilal Koleilat For Dr. Bilal Koleilat (“Conservative Correction”), orthodontics shares surprising similarities with his favorite pastime: tennis. Both require quick decision-making, hand-eye coordination and problem-solving—though chasing yellow tennis balls offers a bit more fun and less stress than perfecting smiles.

Koleilat’s experience extends beyond the clinic, comparing orthodontic practices in the U.S. and Lebanon. While U.S. practices often involve extensive administrative work, Lebanese clinics are typically smaller but face unique challenges, like the concentration of nearly half the country’s orthodontists in Beirut, leaving rural areas underserved. His global perspective highlights the importance of equitable care.
