Houston, TX - Sept. 22, 2014 - Michael K. Lowe, OrthoAccel Technology president and CEO, is a 2014 Houston Business Journal (HBJ) 40 Under 40 honoree, which recognizes Houston’s best and brightest young executives.

Selected from among 700 nominees by a panel of Houston senior business executives and HBJ staff, Lowe’s impressive contributions to the orthodontic industry as well as the Houston medical technology sector merited this recognition.

Lowe is best known among the orthodontic industry for bringing to market AcceleDent – the first and only FDA-cleared, Class II medical device that has been proven to speed up orthodontic treatment by as much as 50 percent. Among the Houston business and technology sector, Lowe is highly regarded by his peers for his passion and contributions to Houston’s ongoing development as a booming Silicon Valley-like medical technology market of development, incubation and commercialization.

“Houston is full of very hard-working and extremely intelligent, well-rounded young executives, so to be selected among the best of the best is truly an honor to me,” said Lowe. “I’m appreciative of the Houston Business Journal for this recognition as it highlights the very things I’m passionate about: community service, innovation and job creation.”

In addition to strategically positioning Houston-based OrthoAccel as the leader in accelerated orthodontics with AcceleDent now being offered in more than 1,500 orthodontic locations, Lowe’s community service and family life are also noteworthy aspects of his selection as a 40 Under 40 honoree.

He has chaired his daughters’ Girl Scouts cookie campaign, volunteered with their swim team, created a chess club for youngsters and completed over 30 marathons while also being a frequent guest lecturer at his alma mater, Rice University. Lowe has mentored several up-and-coming young professionals through these lectures as well as through his involvement with Innovation Norway and Genesys Works.

Through Innovation Norway, a program that promotes industrial development that impacts the global business economy and Norway’s national economy, Lowe has welcomed seven exchange students to OrthoAccel. Similarly, through the Genesys Works program that offers invaluable business environment internships to economically disadvantaged high school students, Lowe has provided valuable experience to six high school interns at OrthoAccel since 2012.

Prior to OrthoAccel, Lowe spent seven years at Philips Oral Healthcare (Royal Philips Electronics) where he worked in a variety of roles including global product management and brand management of Sonicare. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Louisiana State University and a MBA from Rice University’s Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management. Lowe resides in the Greater Houston Area with his wife, Sarah, who is a practicing orthodontist, and their three daughters.

Lowe will be honored at HBJ’s formal 40 Under 40 event, Oct. 29, 2014.
