BioModels Aid Good Outcomes In Orthodontics

BMi_orthodontic (WinCE).jpgSetting and meeting patient expectations and winning patient confidence are critical in building an orthodontic practice.  Based on data obtained from CT scans, BMI, BioMedical Modeling, Inc, is now providing orthodontists with anatomically-accurate, translucent BioDental™ models that clearly show teeth and roots, bone structure and density, and sinus/maxilla features – details that can be hard to discern from plaster models and 2D X-rays.

Working with BioDental models, it’s easy to identify potential problems and explain a treatment plan to a patient.  According to David Hime DDS, Austin, TX, having a BioDental model enables the orthodontist to clearly visualize the 3-dimensional relationship of teeth and outcome of their treatment plan.  “BioDental models have assisted me in the diagnosis of cases with unerupted teeth, such as impacted canines, and provide valuable feedback on final treatment results. This kind of information is unavailable using traditional imaging and modeling techniques.”

BioDental models are made using CT scan data to guide a laser that sculpts photopolymer resin into a solid stereolithographic model.  In addition to orthodontic applications, BioDental models are invaluable in implant dentistry. Dentists who have used these models for implant cases are adopting them as a standard practice modality in cases where teeth have been missing and there has been bone resorption.
