Synopsis:

The title of this presentation may seem like a contradiction of terms, because there are many edgewise appliances that are used all over the world, but they are never intermaxillary. There are also many intermaxillary machines that are used routinely by all of us, but they are never edgewise! Dr.Jasper will explore this disconnect and look at all of the overjet appliances through the eyes of physics -- the ultimate in evidence.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
  • Realize they are using uncontrolled, linear tipping forces with their current attempts to eliminate overjet.
  • Understand that there can be only 4 categories of appliances possible.
  • Choose the category that fits their treatment goals and treatment plans the best.
  • Understand that 70°/o of our Class II patients need mandibular advancement instead of maxillary restraint.
  • Decide if they really want an adolescent to run their treatment plans and office income.
