He scaled to 40 new patients/month, ~2.2M in revenue, and a fully built team.

I just had the founder of a fast-growing startup practice, , on the podcast: Dr. Chaz Vittitow

Here’s what I learned:

  1. “Saturation isn’t competition, it’s proof of demand.”
He reframed a crowded market as validation, not a barrier and leaned into differentiation instead of avoidance.
  2.
  3. “Growth doesn’t come from safety, it comes from commitment.”
The real momentum started when he left his associateship early and went all-in before things felt “secure.”
  4.
  5. “If you wait until you’re ready, you’re already late.”
Hiring, expansion, and even capacity decisions were made ahead of need, not in reaction to burnout.
  6.
  7. “Insurance feels like revenue… until you realize it’s your biggest expense.”
Viewing write-offs as a marketing cost changed how he approached payer relationships and when to walk away.
  8.
  9. “Patients don’t leave when you raise standards, they leave when you stop explaining them.”
Dropping insurance didn’t cause mass attrition, poor communication would have.
  10.
  11. “Words aren’t small details, they are the experience.”
Changing terms like “cleaning” to “hygiene therapy” or “cost” to “investment” shifted perception and acceptance.
  12.
  13. “If your team isn’t aligned in language, you’re rebuilding trust in every room.”
Consistency across assistants, hygienists, and front office created momentum instead of friction.
  14.
  15. “You don’t build culture during chaos, you build it during training.”
Blocking time monthly and quarterly for team training became a non-negotiable lever for growth.
  16.
  17. “Keeping the wrong person is more selfish than letting them go.”
Holding onto misaligned team members slowed progress more than the discomfort of making a change.
  18.
  19. “Profit isn’t the reward, it’s the foundation.”
Once he committed to paying himself consistently, every decision became clearer and more intentional.
