I’ve heard a story that stuck with me for a long time.

A doctor sold his practice to an associate he trusted. The associate was solid clinically, good with patients, and seemed like the right fit. The seller even helped finance the deal to make it work.

But within a short time, things started to slip.

Not because anyone had bad intentions… but because the business side wasn’t understood or supported.

Decisions got inconsistent. Systems weren’t followed. The team felt it first. Then patients did.

Eventually, the original owner had to step back in and take the practice back, after losing team members and patients along the way.

It’s not a rare story. It happens more than people talk about.

And it usually comes down to this:

Being good clinically doesn’t automatically mean someone is ready to run a business.

David Phelps break this entire situation down in the latest episode, what went wrong and what to look for before it happens.
